Merged ASIA-AQ Emissions Inventory (ASIA-AQv5): Development Overview
This technical note describes the development of the Merged ASIA-AQ Emissions Inventory (ASIA-AQv5), prepared to support the ASIA-AQ aircraft campaign and associated air quality modeling activities. ASIA-AQv5 integrates ASIA-AQv3 for Northeast Asia, the Taiwan emission inventory, the Thailand national emission inventory, and MIXv2.3 for the remaining Asian background regions. The component inventories are harmonized to a common 0.1° × 0.1° spatial grid, monthly temporal resolution, common source sectors, units, and chemical species. The document describes the component inventories, merging and harmonization procedures, spatial and temporal conversion, unit conversion, sector mapping, particulate matter standardization, VOC species harmonization to a common SAPRC07 representation, treatment of agricultural emissions, and regional and sectoral emission summaries. It also documents major uncertainties and limitations associated with differences in base year, regional inventory structure, sector allocation, PM representation, and VOC reclassification. This Zenodo record contains the technical documentation for ASIA-AQv5. The gridded ASIA-AQv5 emission inventory will be released separately and linked to this record when available.
