Abstract

In organisational psychology, team dynamics can be difficult to teach in a way that lends applied insight to students. They may intuitively assume that simply selecting the "best" people will make the best teams. They may have trouble appreciating the trade-offs involved in team composition, how team members may react under pressure, and what active team management may look like. I have developed a narrative-based experiential exercise that simulates the formation of a change management team and the subsequent management of their stress responses. Overall, the exercise may offer a shared experience for students to reflect on how personnel selection can interact with organisational strategy.
