Consumer Power Vs AI Energy Consumption
This short paper outlines a simple user‑side protocol for reducing AI energy waste by constraining output length. It identifies the mechanism that produces waste, shows why user behaviour is the only practical lever, and presents a minimal, directly usable intervention that improves efficiency without altering system internals. Given the ongoing debate over AI data‑centre electricity demand, the paper notes that, for whatever reason, this basic mitigation was never implemented by the labs, leaving efficiency to the user rather than the corporations operating the infrastructure.
