European standards for the protection of the rights of older persons and their implementation in Ukraine

The objective of the research is to analyse the European standards for the protection of the rights of older persons and to assess the implementation of these standards in the legislation of Ukraine in the context of European integration. The study aims to identify the main legal challenges related to the protection of older persons, including age discrimination, social protection, access to healthcare and social services, as well as to formulate proposals for improving Ukrainian legislation in accordance with European human rights standards. The research is based on a combination of general scientific and special legal research methods. The formal-logical method was used to analyse the legal nature of the rights of older persons and the content of national and international legal acts. The comparative legal method was applied to compare the legislation of Ukraine with European and international legal standards governing the protection of the rights of older persons. The method of content analysis was used to examine international legal instruments, European Union legislation, Council of Europe documents and Ukrainian normative acts. The systematic method made it possible to identify the relationship between legal regulation, social policy and the institutional mechanisms for protecting the rights of older persons. The historical method was used to analyse the development of international and European approaches to the protection of the rights of elderly people. The subject of the research is the system of international, European and Ukrainian legal norms regulating the protection of the rights of older persons, as well as the mechanisms for implementing European standards in Ukrainian legislation under the conditions of demographic ageing, European integration and the challenges caused by the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine.
