Management of Hyperuricemia in Gout (Vatarakta) with Ayurveda Medications: A Case Report

In management of hyperuricemia associated with gout, conventional pharmacological and biochemical treatments frequently prove inadequate. However, emerging evidence indicates that Ayurveda and complementary medicine may offer an approach to the management of hyperuricemia in gout.A 61-year-old male patient with complaints of pain in the joints, piercing pain, swelling at joints, tenderness, burning sensation, warmth, stiffness and tophi at the first metatarsal joint of both legs for last 6 months corresponding to hyperuricemia in gout (Vatarakta) was treated. The efficacy of a therapeutic blend consisting of Gokshuradi Guggulu, Punarnavadi Mandoora, and Nimbadi Churna was evaluated.ACR-EULAR gout criteria from 2015 serve as a diagnostic standard. The patient experienced a significant alleviation of clinical symptoms, accompanied by a substantial reduction in visual analog scale (VAS 0-10 cm), Patients global assessment, Physician's global assessment, SF-36 health survey score and serum uric acid level. This therapeutic combination produces marked improvement within 12 weeks.
