Service Delivery Barriers in Pediatric Feeding Disorder: A Path Forward

PURPOSE: This article examines barriers and facilitators to the care of children with pediatric feeding disorder (PFD), a complex condition that impacts individuals, families, medical institutions, and communities. METHOD: This clinical focus article was developed through a targeted literature synthesis and conceptual analysis leading to the identification and grouping of care barriers. RESULTS: Multiple barriers affecting professionals and caregivers were identified, including limitations in resources, clinical tools, care coordination, accessibility, and caregiver-related factors. CONCLUSIONS: The identification of barriers reveals the need for unified strategic approaches to improve care efforts. Five key initiatives are proposed: advancing research, policy, and guidelines; providing PFD-specific professional training; expanding access to care; strengthening support systems; and enhancing caregiver education and engagement.
