0053Fatty Acid Remodeling Links the Atherogenic Index of Plasma to Coronary Artery Disease Severity
Background The relative contributions of the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) and triglyceride–glucose (TyG) index to coronary artery disease (CAD) severity remain unclear, and their links with fatty acid metabolism have not been systematically investigated. Methods Sixty-one patients undergoing coronary angiography were evaluated. CAD severity was quantified using the Gensini score. Plasma fatty acid composition was analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry, and desaturase activities were estimated using product-to-precursor ratios. Results AIP demonstrated a significant positive association with Gensini score and remained an independent predictor of CAD severity, whereas TyG showed a limited association. HDL lost its independent predictive value after adjustment for AIP. Both AIP and TyG were associated with insulin resistance–related parameters. Among desaturase indices, delta-6 desaturase showed positive associations with body mass index (BMI), insulin, VLDL, and AIP, whereas delta-5 desaturase demonstrated inverse associations with BMI and VLDL. Conclusions AIP more effectively reflects coronary atherosclerotic burden than TyG. The association between desaturase activities and AIP suggests a mechanistic connection between fatty acid remodeling and coronary atherosclerosis. Is this an encore abstract? No
