Preparing for the Safe Drinking Water Act Era

In Opflow's past two issues, this column has traced the historic accomplishments of the Ashtabula Water Works Company, a private water utility in a small Northeast Ohio city, and how Frank J. “Doc” Hull guided the company through the Great Depression, World War II, the Korean War, and the early years of the Baby Boom. As the water industry prepared for the regulatory changes that would accompany the Safe Drinking Water Act, a new generation of leaders guided the company through a period of modernization, expanding infrastructure, laboratory capabilities, and operational expertise.
