Living with Limits: A Phenomenological Study on the Experience of Intradialytic Weight Control in Hemodialysis

This phenomenological study explored the daily life experiences of 18 hemodialysis patients managing fluid restrictions, recruited from a university hospital in Turkey. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological method supported by MAXQDA software. Two themes emerged: Living Amidst Constraints (environmental, psychological, physical, and professional challenges) and Finding Strength (behavioral adaptations, resilience, social support, and educational and technological tools). These findings suggest that knowledge alone is insufficient to ensure adherence to fluid restrictions; nursing practice must therefore embrace holistic, patient-centered approaches that incorporate psychological support and social reinforcement alongside education.
