Emotional labor among women in higher education academics. A scoping study

A scoping study is presented on the emotional labor of women academics who carry out teaching, research, and management activities at the university level. The scoping study shows the thematic trend in four main categories: Context, Intersectionality, Roles, and Strategies. Among the main findings are that the problem began to be inquired into at the faculty level and has recently been extended to the Academy level. Most of the research studies collected experiences and meanings that women academics give to emotional labor in order to carry out different university activities. For that purpose, they have deployed a series of strategies such as aesthetic labor, the creation of academic communities, and reflective practice that allow them to manage the emotional effort involved in reconciling professional life with personal and domestic life, sometimes to the disadvantage of women who do not fit into organizational and cultural parameters.
