EXPRESS: Multimodal diagnostic imaging facilitates diagnosis and surgical approach in a cat with complete and partial left divisional liver lobe torsion

Case Summary A one-year-old male neutered domestic shorthair cat was presented to a referral hospital with 24 hour history of vomiting and anorexia and marked biochemical hepatopathy. Multiple imaging modalities, including radiography, ultrasonography and multiphase multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT), were utilised and the diagnosis of liver lobe torsion (complete and partial torsion) was reached. The patient underwent exploratory celiotomy for liver lobectomy and made a full recovery. The cause of the liver lobe torsion was not evident on histological examination. Relevance and novel information This is a case report describing multiphase MDCT, along with radiographic and ultrasonographic findings of liver lobe torsion in a cat. MDCT is valuable in identifying complete and partial liver torsion, with the portal phases being key for assessing vascular integrity and the extent of ischaemia.
