Comparative characteristics of the possibilities of panoramic tomography and cone-beam computed tomography in the context of morphological research

Background. The role of radiation diagnostic methods in modern medicine cannot be overestimated. However, among all the variety of methods, specialists most often use cone-facial computed tomography, unfairly relegating other radiological methods to the background. Objective. The purpose of the study is to compare the possibilities of panoramic tomography and CBCT for morphological studies according to the literature. Material and methods. To achieve this goal, an information search was conducted for publications in scientific electronic libraries Elibrary, PubMed, Google Scholar for 2017—2025. Results. An analysis of the literature has shown that panoramic tomography has a number of advantages: a relatively low price, low radiation exposure, and the ability to perform morphometry of the posterior mandible. Conclusion. Panoramic tomography is a reliable and affordable, and, most importantly, a modern and promising diagnostic method that can be usefully used in morphological studies.
