Management of Perianal Condyloma Lata as Charmakeela by Ayurveda Para-surgical Procedures: A Case Report

Introduction: Anal condylomas are common benign growths associated with sexually transmitted infections such as syphilis and human papillomavirus.Conventional treatments, including interferon injections, surgical excision, and topical podophyllin, often show high recurrence rates and adverse effects.In Ayurveda, these warty growths are correlated with Charmakeela and managed through para-surgical procedures like Agnikarma and Ksharkarma described by Acharya Sushruta.Patient presentation: This case study presents a 27-year-old male with perianal papillary growths, itching, and pain for 18 months, diagnosed as perianal condyloma lata (Charmakeela).Intervention: The patient underwent Agnikarma followed by Ksharkarma, with postoperative local dressing using Yashtimadhu Ghrita and oral Ayurveda medications for 1 month along with conventional adult dose (2.4 million units) of benzathine penicillin G given as a single intramuscular injection for syphilis.Outcome: Complete wound healing was achieved within 4 weeks, and no recurrence was reported over 18 months.Clinical significance: This study highlights the efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness of Ayurvedic para-surgical techniques in managing anal condylomas, offering a promising alternative to conventional therapies.
