IMPROVEMENT OF LAPAROSCOPIC SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY TECHNIQUE FOR THE PREVENTION OF LONG-TERM FUNCTIONAL AND ORGANIC COMPLICATIONS

This article presents a comparative assessment of long-term functional and organic complications following laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy in 319 patients with morbid obesity. The study group included 154 patients who underwent the modified surgical technique, while the comparison group comprised 165 patients treated using the conventional approach. Postoperative outcomes were evaluated over a follow-up period of up to 18 months. Anatomical abnormalities of the gastric sleeve were identified in 11.7% of patients in the study group compared with 27.3% in the comparison group (p<0.001). The modified technique was associated with lower rates of proximal gastric sleeve dilatation, deformation at the incisura angularis, and functional and organic complications. These findings highlight the importance of anatomically appropriate gastric sleeve formation in improving long-term outcomes after bariatric surgery.
