Medium‐Pressure Ultraviolet Technology Prevents Biofouling and Boosts Membrane Performance
Key Takeaways Biofouling on membrane surfaces significantly reduces membrane performance, increases energy demand, and shortens membrane lifespan. Medium‐pressure ultraviolet (MP‐UV) technology offers a nonchemical treatment alternative to conventional biofouling control strategies such as chemical biocides. MP‐UV pretreatment minimizes membrane biofouling, limits bacterial growth, and protects reverse osmosis membranes and other sensitive equipment. Operational data from two case studies highlight that MP‐UV technology can improve membrane performance and extend membrane service life.
