Efficacy of natural products in the control of Raoiella indica (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) in laboratory bioassays
Different concentrations of Sulfocal, Bioactive, and Fitoneem solutions were evaluated for their toxicity against female Raoiella indica (Hirst) (Acari: Tenuipalpidae). Coconut leaf discs were sprayed with the treatments and subsequently infested with adult females. Mortality was assessed after 24, 48, 72, and 120 h. The tested concentrations were 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mL L−1 for Fitoneem; 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mL L−1 for Fitoneem and Bioactive and 2, 4, 6, 20, 40, and 60 g L−1 for Sulfocal. After 120 h, Sulfocal at 20, 40, and 60 g L−1 showed significantly higher probability of death of mites than the control and water treatment. Bioactive at 1.5 mL L−1 resulted in a significant increase of probability of death of mites after 72 h compared to that at the 24- and 48-h intervals. Fitoneem at 1.5 mL L−1 demonstrated the highest efficacy after 120 h of exposure. The results indicate the potential of these products for controlling R. indica, with higher concentrations being the most effective.
