The Demos Principle

A manifesto built on a single principle: those who live under the law write it. Nearly every order today calls itself a democracy, yet in all of them one person writes the law and another lives under it. This text sets the principle down not as an ideal but as a rule, and derives seven pillars from it: a direct and secret vote on the law; one constitution with two tiers of law, global where a law's effects cross a city's boundary and local where they do not, applied by an elected executive that makes no law; a constitution that belongs to the living and changes only with the consent of more than half of all citizens; a ceiling on wealth built as a slope rather than a wall; a Common Fund no contributor can steer; an unconditional floor that gives every person the power to say no; and a Record under which the vote is secret and power is open.
