Lipid metabolism disorders as a factor in reducing male reproductive function: etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment

Male infertility is a major medical and social problem. Up to 40% of cases of sperm quality disorders appear to be idiopathic. This review focuses on the relationship between lipid metabolism and ejaculate parameters, as well as the impact of traditional treatments for dyslipidemia on male fertility. It has been shown that lipid metabolism disorders negatively affect the quantitative and functional characteristics of ejaculate. From a pathogenetic perspective, it is justified that in order to improve the quality of ejaculate, it is necessary to maintain the level of lipids within the reference ranges. The correction of lipid metabolism disorders based on Clinical Guidelines for the prevention of endothelial dysfunction and the prevention of cardiovascular diseases can be considered as a preventive measure and treatment for the reduction of reproductive function in the relevant category of men. In this case, an extended examination of fat metabolism should be performed.
