Narcissistic Collapse – Vulnerability, Reward Regulation, and Source Loss is a hypothesis model by Kevereschán András that describes narcissistic collapse as an acute destabilization of compensatory self-image and external reward regulation following major self-image injury and/or the sudden loss of a high-weight reward or control source. The model distinguishes structural baseline vulnerability, chronically increased vulnerability, and acute vulnerability spikes, while separating vulnerability itself from emptiness and control need. The framework also distinguishes two dynamically changing reward priorities during collapse: immediate restoration of self-image/control and reacquisition of the lost source. These goals may alternate or operate simultaneously. Reacquisition strategies are additionally organized along a proposed grandiose self-image cost dimension, ranging from dominance restoration to more explicit acknowledgment of dependence. The model includes a comparative codependent pathway, safety-relevant outcomes such as persistent reacquisition attempts, coercive control, stalking-like behavior, and crisis-related narrowing of decision focus, and an evolutionary interpretation in which reciprocity may be adaptive partly because it supports broader and more stable access to multiple social rewards. This is a theoretical and testable hypothesis model, not a diagnostic instrument. It integrates established findings on attachment insecurity, pathological narcissism, emotion regulation, aggression, breakup-related reactions, and interpersonal violence with novel predictions concerning source concentration, reward regulation, collapse dynamics, IIRB, and grandiose self-image cost.
