Pregnancy planning as a way to prevent abortion

The strategy of planned (desired) pregnancy allows to preserve a woman’s reproductive health for carrying and giving birth to healthy children, as well as to prevent the possibility of abortion. An unconditional condition for its practical implementation is an informed attitude to family planning combined with sufficient contraceptive literacy. Objective. To study the opinion of the population aged 20 to 30 years about the methods of pregnancy planning and the level of adherence to contraception. Material and methods. The study was longitudinal in nature, conducted anonymously in the period from 2020 to 2023. The data of Rosstat and materials of questionnaire survey on the author’s questionnaire of 1509 young people living in Omsk and Omsk region were analyzed. Statistical processing was carried out using the SPSS 23.0 program package with the calculation of extensive and intensive values, as well as the application of correlation analysis and the criterion of correspondence c2. Results. A positive attitude of respondents to the need to plan pregnancy and birth of children was revealed (2020 — 65.9%, 2023 — 69.2%). The most common answer option for the planned number of children is two children in the family (2020 — 35.2%, 2023 — 43.7%). Respondents’ opinion about the effectiveness of abortion as a means of family planning had statistically significant gender differences (young men were more loyal to abortion than girls). A significant proportion of respondents regularly used contraception (2020 — 44.9%, 2023 — 47.9%). Of these, the majority of respondents (64.6 per 100 respondents and 58.9 per 100 respectively) used barrier methods based on knowledge obtained from non-medical sources (from the internet — 59.6 per 100, from acquaintances — 82.7 per 100). Conclusion. A certain contradiction in the opinions of survey participants with regard to family planning issues has been revealed, which is related, among other things, to insufficient awareness of methods and means of effective contraception.
