hatOs: An interactive communication system for the plastic arts in the Eastern Plains of Colombia
The plastic arts of Colombia's Eastern Plains sustain an active community of artists, collectives, galleries, and institutes, but remain largely invisible to their own public. Regional identity has been bound historically to cattle ranching, folk music and dance, and gallery attendance in the Orinoquía-Amazonía region runs at roughly half the rate of Bogotá. This project diagnoses that ecosystem through fieldwork in Villavicencio, Meta, in 2021, structured as a Double Diamond. Methods included interviews with artists, cultural managers and public institutions; a public survey on cultural consumption, content preference and perceived barriers; territorial mapping of cultural infrastructure; actor analysis by market presence and influence; and desk analysis of six comparable platforms. Personas, an experience map and a business model informed a service blueprint and a navigable prototype. One core problem emerged: no communication system unifies, exhibits and recognises the plastic artist. Preference for physical and for digital cultural experience proved identical, and the proposal, hatOs, links multimedia nodes inside existing cultural spaces into routes connecting digital exploration to physical visits. Validation with ten participants (design professionals, cultural managers and potential users) confirmed its communicative and institutional plausibility while leaving hybrid navigability unresolved.
