Beckers Collection (Aachen) - The Stick Shabti UB-016 - Object, Inscription, Condition

This publication presents an object-based study of a wooden stick shabti of the late Seventeenth to early Eighteenth Dynasty, published by Paul Whelan (2007, pp. 131-132) and now in the Beckers Collection, Aachen. The study combines autopsy of the object with the published record, addressing the description of head and wig, the short kilt rendered in relief, the longitudinal crack and its historic plaster fill, the six horizontal hieratic lines and their dedication formula, and the documented change of condition between the photographs of 2005/2007 and the documentation series of 2026. Technical examination comprises UV fluorescence at 365 nm and, in preparation, near-infrared imaging of the inscription. Provenance is reconstructed with explicit levels of evidence, from Hugh Stanley Russell through Bonhams London (20 October 2005, lot 8), Paul Whelan, TimeLine Auctions (22 February 2022, lot 15) and Christoph Bacher Archaeology, Vienna, to the present collection. The publication follows the deep publication approach of this collection, combining structured metadata, high-resolution imagery and reproducible documentation workflows.
