Philosophical Machine and the BOIS Cycle
A philoma is an embodied temporal loop of abstract transitions and semantic distinctions in whichmaterial acquires meaning through operative categories, the result returns to activity, and the result,experience, or remainder of previous work participates in the next turn, while under specified conditionsthe method of work itself can be revised. Four conditions, F1-F4, define the boundary of the class; aseven-coordinate passport reveals the organization of its distinctions. Its philosophical character isdetermined by the operation of categories of subject matter, grounds, purpose, and completion, includingtheir embodiment in skills and procedures. An available revision of the method is distinguished from achange of state and from selecting an already mastered branch. BOIS is presented as a specific twelvelinkcycle of inquiry, holistic justification, and continued activity. A transportation case and a teachingcase involving a report-release service show how the past participates in a new turn, how statuses arepreserved, and how applicability is checked after set-aside properties are restored. The A0-A9 scalespecifies the M1 and M3 prototypes. A8 and A9 extend it under the author's premise that the entireUniverse is one philoma U: from within the computable world and at the level of the substrate thatimplements it. The content of this premise is unpacked through F1-F4; a teaching pair shows how theresearcher's own memory changes the grounds for continuation. Methodological philosophy establishesthe subject matter and grounds of transitions; the magnitude of practical benefit is a matter for empiricalinvestigation.
