The Structure-Observer Interpretation Hypothesis

Even when the same object or structure is given, the interpretation that arises from it is not necessarily determined by the structure alone. This paper proposes that Interpretation depends on the Observer Intelligence that observes a Structure, and further that what an Observer Intelligence can derive from that Structure depends on the intelligence level of the observer. Let S denote the observed Structure, O the Observer Intelligence, and I the Interpretation arising through observation. Their minimal relation is expressed as I = f(S, O) To illustrate this relation, the paper uses a minimal example in which a child and an adult read the same fable. The text itself remains unchanged. A child may read it as a story about characters and events, while an adult may additionally observe in the same story an allegory concerning human relationships, society, power, or morality. The point is not that the former interpretation is incorrect and the latter correct. Rather, what arises as Interpretation from the same Structure is not independent of Observer Intelligence. From this relation, the paper derives an engineering principle for knowledge representation and AI system design: fixing Structure should not be conflated with fixing Interpretation.
