The Limited Autonomous System as a Possible Basis of Subjectivity

This preprint proposes a synthetic hypothesis concerning the possible emergence of subjective experience in physical autonomous systems. The hypothesis examines the possible relationship between boundedness, autonomy, internal states, embodiment, memory, prediction, action, self-modeling, and subjective perspective. It does not claim to provide a complete solution to the hard problem of consciousness, but proposes a unified causal architecture for further theoretical and empirical investigation.

Abstract

This preprint proposes a synthetic hypothesis concerning the possible emergence of subjective experience in physical autonomous systems. The hypothesis examines the possible relationship between boundedness, autonomy, internal states, embodiment, memory, prediction, action, self-modeling, and subjective perspective. It does not claim to provide a complete solution to the hard problem of consciousness, but proposes a unified causal architecture for further theoretical and empirical investigation.
