Primary Brain Malignancies in Interventional Cardiologists: A Literature Review and Hypothesis Formulation to Enhance Awareness and Prospective Studies
Abstract Over the past decade there have been numerous reports of primary brain malignancies in physicians utilizing radiation for procedures. Among the highest affected group of physicians are interventional cardiologists (ICs) who routinely require the aid of radiation when performing procedures. Despite the protection regulations currently in place, there still exists room for improvement as ICs appear to develop primary brain malignancies at an earlier age compared with the general population. This literature review intends to accumulate scattered data in the literature base and formulate a working hypothesis to raise awareness and lead to prospective studies.
