Interventional Radiology Society of Australasia Quality Care Guidelines for Prostate Artery Embolisation for Men With Symptomatic Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia in Australia and New Zealand
ABSTRACT Objective This guideline defines recommendations for the provision of quality care for prostate artery embolisation (PAE) treatment for symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It has been developed using the AGREE‐II framework and aligns with current evidence, sourced from Randomised Controlled Trials, meta‐analyses and expert consensus. Recommendations are graded according to the level of evidence supporting them. Target Audience Men with symptomatic BPH considering their treatment options and referring clinicians including general practitioners, urologists and interventional radiologists. Formulation of Recommendations This guideline was developed using a modified Delphi approach among a panel of expert interventional radiologists, with a structured review of current literature including randomised controlled trials, meta‐analyses and high‐quality cohort studies. Target Users This guideline is intended for use by medical practitioners involved in the assessment and management of men with symptomatic BPH, including general practitioners, urologists and interventional radiologists. It may also inform policy‐makers, hospital administrators and quality assurance bodies regarding the standard of care for PAE. Updating Procedure This guideline will be reviewed 5 years after publication, or earlier if significant new evidence emerges. Updates will follow the AGREE CheckUp process and will be published in relevant peer‐reviewed outlets and society guidelines.
