Preliminary Physicochemical and Phytochemical Evaluation of Powdered Leaves of Wrightia Tinctoria Roxb.

Wrightia tinctoria Roxb. is an important medicinal plant used in Ayurveda for managing skin diseases such as psoriasis. The present study evaluates preliminary phytochemical and physicochemical evaluation of the powdered leaves of Wrightia tinctoria Roxb. Physicochemical parameters include ash values, moisture content, volatile oil, crude fibre, tannins, phenols, sugars, and pH. Extractive values and successive solvent extractives were assessed, and Preliminary phytochemical screening of cold-water extracts and solvent fractions were performed to characterise major secondary metabolites. The total ash value was 10.25 %, 9 % moisture content, and the maximum extractive yield in hot water was 19.3 %, indicating optimal solubility of active components in aqueous media. Phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of saponins, carbohydrates, proteins, phenols, steroids, and tannins. The findings indicate a favourable purity profile.
