Land Fragmentation and Technology Adoption in Rice Production: Evidence From Vietnam

ABSTRACT This research aims to investigate the influence of land fragmentation on the adoption of improved rice varieties in Vietnam, employing the Vietnam Access to Resources Household Survey (VARHS) panel data spanning the years 2010 to 2018. Our findings using instrumental variables reveal a significant negative association between land fragmentation and technology adoption in the context of rice production in Vietnam. The results can be used as a guide in the formulation of government policies that promote farmer engagement in land consolidation initiatives as a means to enhance technology adoption and overall agricultural productivity.
