The Drive–Dialogue–Agency Hypothesis of Consciousness
This document proposes a new synthesis concerning the possible evolutionary development of humanconsciousness and the cognitive origins of supernatural-agent concepts. The central hypothesis is thatconsciousness may be understood, in part, as an emergent interaction among ancient biological drives,increasingly sophisticated systems of internal representation, language-based inner speech, and mechanisms forattributing agency to mental events
