The Effects of Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) Extract on Cancer Cells: Antitumor Mechanisms and Therapeutic Potential

Abstract A systematic review evaluated Achillea millefolium (yarrow) extract’s effects on cancer cells, focusing on antitumor mechanisms. Using keywords like “yarrow,” “Achillea millefolium,” and “cancer cells,” a comprehensive search in databases such as PubMed and Scopus was conducted. Following PRISMA guidelines, only in vitro studies on yarrow extract’s impact on cancer cells were included, excluding other forms and reviews. Out of 664 studies, 21 met the criteria, revealing yarrow extract’s significant antitumor effects like apoptosis induction, cell proliferation inhibition, and metastasis suppression. However, more high-quality research is needed to confirm these findings and establish its therapeutic potential in cancer treatment.
