First record of Thrissina adelae (Rutter, 1897) (Clupeiformes, Engraulidae) from Taiwan
Two specimens of Thrissina adelae (Rutter, 1897), collected from Taiwan, were recently found in the ichthyology collection of the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium. Because previous records of the species from Taiwan were all ambiguous, the present specimens represent the first reliable Taiwanese records for this taxon. However, the specimens were collected in 1964, and newer catches are unknown. Several other Taiwanese clupeiform species have not been recorded since the mid-20th century, suggesting that populations of these species have decreased in the region.
