Methods for Measuring Quark and Gluon Jet Parameter Distributions

Abstract Two methods for measuring quark (q) and gluon (g) jet distributions as a function of the jet parameter (q/g-templates) are proposed in this work. Both methods use the pre-measured g-jet fractions in given jet samples. In the first method, two jet samples are employed. A correction, calculated using the Monte Carlo simulation, is applied to account for differences in q/g-templates between the two jet samples. The second method uses a single jet sample, which is divided into quark-enriched and gluon-enriched subsamples using a quark–gluon discriminator. Corrections for wrong and lost jets are obtained from simulation. Proposed data-driven q/g-templates can be used for the task of q/g-jet tagging in hadron–hadron collisions.

Abstract

Both methods use the pre-measured g-jet fractions in given jet samples. In the first method, two jet samples are employed. Corrections for wrong and lost jets are obtained from simulation. Proposed data-driven q/g-templates can be used for the task of q/g-jet tagging in hadron–hadron collisions.
