Conducting Research in ABA Service Organizations: Benefits, Obstacles, and Systems Solutions

This Discussion article addresses the process of conducting ABA research at large day-school and residential care facilities from the perspectives of practitioners, senior clinicians, and organization leaders. We first review several benefits and motivational incentives associated with organizational research and dissemination efforts. Next, the article considers obstacles within organizations that thwart research projects and lessen the capacity to initiate and complete studies. A third section of the article describes an integrated model of organizational solutions to overcome research impediments, create a fulfilling research culture, and promote a sustainable scientist-practitioner orientation.
