Unity Through Rheumatic Diseases: A Youth-Led Model of Community, Connection, and Change

On May 31, 2025, I stood at the entrance of the InterContinental Toronto Centre as over 150 individuals streamed through the doors. Some were patients who had never met another person with a rheumatic disease (RD), and others were caregivers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and advocates. Despite their diverse perspectives, what united this community was a desire for connection, understanding, and progress in the field of rheumatology.

Abstract

On May 31, 2025, I stood at the entrance of the InterContinental Toronto Centre as over 150 individuals streamed through the doors. Some were patients who had never met another person with a rheumatic disease (RD), and others were caregivers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and advocates. Despite their diverse perspectives, what united this community was a desire for connection, understanding, and progress in the field of rheumatology.
