Infection profile and risk factors for adverse outcomes in children with febrile neutropenia: a single-center study from Northwestern India
= 13). Profound neutropenia at presentation was a predictor of prolonged hospital stay. CRP was a predictor of mortality and the need for intensive care. Procalcitonin was a predictor of all adverse outcomes explored in the study-bloodstream infection, mortality, need for intensive care, and prolonged hospital stay. According to the available data, gram-negative organisms dominate bloodstream infections in this part of the world. Procalcitonin is a valuable predictor of adverse outcomes in FN, guiding early antibiotic escalation to improve outcomes.
