The Boselt NoFix Notification-Checking Obsession Scale—Development of the Adolescent Form and Analysis of Its Psychometric Properties

This study aimed to develop the Boselt NoFix (Notification Fixation) Notification-Checking Obsession Scale–Adolescent Form to assess excessive notification-checking behaviors and related obsessive–compulsive patterns among adolescents aged 12–18 years and to examine its psychometric properties. The study was conducted in three consecutive phases using three independent samples and included a total of 736 adolescents residing in Turkey (mean age = 15.20 years, SD = 1.10; 50.7% female). Exploratory factor analysis revealed an eight-item scale with a two-factor structure (obsession and compulsion), explaining 71.1% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated good model fit. The overall reliability of the scale was high (Cronbach’s α = .90; McDonald’s ω = .91), with subscale reliability coefficients ranging from .85 to .87. Test–retest analyses demonstrated temporal stability. The total score and sub-dimensions showed positive, moderate correlations with digital amnesia, supporting external validity. The NoFix Scale is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing notification-based digital control behaviors in adolescents.
