Association of vascular and nervous parameters of angio-OCT with color objective quantification of the optic nerve by color photo in patients with and without hypertension
Background: To detect the association of the vascular and nervous parameters measured by angio-OCT with the objective quantification of the color of the optic nerve by color photo in patients with and without a history of arterial hypertension.Method: Cross-sectional study, in which 78 eyes of 41 patients were evaluated. The parameters evaluated were blood pressure measurement, intraocular pressure, color photography and angio-OCT of the optic nerve.Spearman's rho correlation was performed between the RNFL and vascular density parameters in the four ocular quadrants of the angio-OCT against the color of the photo disk. Results: The vascular density of the radial peripapillary capillary network of the nasal optic nerve was lower in the hypertensive group (p = 0.0128).Performing the Spearman's rho correlation coefficient between the RNFL and vascular density parameters in the four quadrants by angio-OCT against the color of the photo disk, a positive correlation with a statistically significant difference in the upper quadrant was found, with values of p = 0.0132 and p = 0,0109, respectively, in the group of hypertensive patients, and not in the group of healthy subjects. Conclusions: In hypertensive patients' lower vascular density was found, predominantly in the nasal quadrant of the optic nerve, and a tendency to paleness of the optic nerve without, being not statistically significant. The use of the Teheran-Morales color scale is useful to objectively unify the color of the optic nerve head, and favors the creation of a future app that facilitates this assessment.
