RAKTASTAMBHANA UPAYA'S IN AYURVEDIC LITERATURE: A CRITICAL REVIEW

Raktastambhana is an important therapeutic concept in Ayurveda for the management of excessive bleeding and preservation of Rakta. The present review aims to compile and understand the different Raktastambhana measures described by the major Ayurvedic Acharyas, mainly Sushruta, Charaka and Vagbhata. Sushruta has described a systematic approach involving Sandhana, Skandana, Pachana and Dahana, along with local applications, pressure, Bandhana, cooling measures and specific procedures for traumatic and procedural bleeding. Charaka mainly emphasizes internal medicines, cooling measures, Tarpana, dietary management, Shamana and Shodhana according to the patient's condition. Vagbhata further explains the importance of Shodhana and Shamana, with treatment selected according to the route of bleeding,
