Global Pax Silica and the Gaza ‘Board of Peace’
Three interwoven developments converge to form the deep backdrop to the Israeli extermination campaign in Gaza. First , the genocide may be the horrific culmination of seventy-five-plus years of Zionist settler colonialism, occupation and apartheid, but in the broader picture we must identify the radical transformations that have taken place in the Middle Eastern and global political economy over the past few decades of capitalist globalization. Second is Pax Silica and the rise of a hegemonic complex of transnational capital and the accumulation strategies that it is pursuing worldwide. This complex is deeply invested in transnational systems of warfare, social control, repression and surveillance that are becoming digitalized, automated and deeply embedded in the global economy and society. It is implicated in the genocide and invested in the so-called Board of Peace that US President Donald Trump inaugurated in January 2026. And third is the epochal crisis of global capitalism. The impulse to genocide has always been built into the Zionist project. However, that impulse has been activated by the epochal crisis.
