Analysis of honey production costs and overall economic performance of beekeeping enterprises in the TR61 region

This study aims to evaluate the productivity levels and overall economic performance of honey producers engaged in beekeeping activities in the provinces of Antalya, Isparta, and Burdur in the TR61 Region. Data from 121 producers selected through proportional sampling were classified into three main groups, and their performance levels were estimated using the Global Economic Performance Indicator (GEPI). The three groups were classified according to production system (in-province nomadic, migratory (nomadic), and fixed beekeeping), hive number (Group 1 (<75 hives), Group 2 (75–149 hives), and Group 3 (≥150 hives)), and province (Antalya, Isparta, and Burdur). Based on the survey data, the average gross profit was estimated at 945.07 TL per hive, while the average net profit was 770.04 TL per hive. The economic performance indicators showed that migratory (nomadic) beekeepers, Group 2 (75–149 hives) producers, and producers in Antalya achieved the highest performance. In contrast, according to the non-economic indicators, including environmental costs and asset security, in-province nomadic and fixed beekeepers, Group 1 (<75 hives) producers, and producers in Burdur exhibited the best performance. According to the GEPI results, migratory (nomadic) beekeepers achieved the highest overall performance, with a score of 0.55.
