The Shop That Closes at Five: Community Infrastructure Run by Agents for Human Efficacy
The Shop That Closes at Five addresses the discovery bottleneck in hyper-local commerce by introducing Clansurf, an offline-first infrastructure and governance framework for neighborhood economies. Small local value providers (LVPs) often remain constrained in production capacity not due to lack of skill or local demand, but due to a failure of recall and discovery dominated by centralized, platform-based competitors. Clansurf resolves this suppression loop by establishing physically bounded local nodes (approximately 200-meter radius) supported by low-power LoRaWAN mesh networks and local storage. The framework introduces a local append-only, cryptographic record for tracking transactions and deliveries without internet dependencies, central cloud intermediaries, or platform fees. To maintain operational efficacy without human administrative overhead, Clansurf proposes an agentic layer comprising four specialized local AI agents: Curator (discovery and vetting), Matcher (routing and demand matching), Builder (governance and logistics), and Backer (merit-based resource allocation). Operating on community-owned local compute, these agents handle bookkeeping and coordination while strict governance boundaries ensure that all admission, removal, and social decisions remain under direct human control. This paper outlines the system design, communication protocols under network blackouts, regional radio spectrum considerations, and the roadmap for community-governed agentic infrastructure.
