First record of Lebiasina boruca (Bussing, 1967) (Characiformes, Lebiasinidae) from Panama: a range extension
We report the first peer-reviewed record of Lebiasina boruca (Bussing, 1967) (Characiformes, Lebiasinidae) from Panama. Specimens were collected in lowland streams of the Escarrea and Chico river basins, Chiriquí Province, on the Pacific slope in western Panama. This record extends the known distribution of the species south-eastward from southern Costa Rica and fills a distributional gap within the Chiriquí ichthyological province. The finding improves our current knowledge on the biogeography of Central American freshwater fishes and highlights the importance of surveys in relatively poorly studied transboundary drainages.
