Methodological Innovations in Spiritual Interventions: Virtual Delivery of Rajyoga Meditation

Traditional contemplative interventions often face significant geographical, logistical, and socio-economic barriers that limit their accessibility, scalability, and standardized implementation in public health settings. This study evaluates the methodological feasibility, instructional fidelity, and psychological efficacy of a 28-day virtually delivered Rajyoga meditation curriculum administered via synchronous online video conferencing (Zoom). Operating within a quasi-experimental design, 312 novice practitioners were assigned across three intervention arms: Pre-Dawn Synchronous Amritvela Meditation (G1, n = 110; 4:00 AM–4:45 AM), Evening Synchronous Meditation (G2, n = 100; 8:30 PM–9:15 PM), and a No-Meditation Control Group (G3, n = 102). Standardized assessments were completed pre- and post-intervention using the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS) and the Spirituality Index of Well-Being (SIWB). Digital tracking yielded a 100% completion rate (zero attrition) and exceptional daily attendance compliance across both virtual groups. Paired t-tests demonstrated massive post-intervention improvements in both virtual cohorts, with the Amritvela cohort exhibiting superior gains on SWBS (Gain = +8.81, t(109) = 10.49, p < .001, Cohen's d = 1.00) and SIWB (Gain = +9.74, t(109) = 13.47, p < .001, Cohen's d = 1.28) compared to the Evening cohort (SWBS Gain = +6.26, d = 0.75; SIWB Gain = +5.65, d = 0.88), while the Control group exhibited slight decline or stasis. Mixed-design ANOVA revealed highly significant Time × Group interaction effects for both SWBS (F(2,309) = 59.27, p < .001, partial eta^2 = .277) and SIWB (F(2,309) = 71.68, p < .001, partial eta^2 = .317). ANCOVA confirmed that virtual intervention gains held firmly after baseline adjustment. These findings establish synchronous virtual delivery as a high-fidelity, methodologically rigorous, and scalable framework for delivering structured contemplative interventions without compromising therapeutic potency or spiritual transformation.
