Aiouea riedeliana comb. nov. (Lauraceae) from Brazil, with an amended description and provisional extinction threat assessment

Aiouea riedeliana (Kosterm.) P.L.R.Moraes and Brotto is the new combination for Cinnamomum riedelianum Kosterm., whose type‐bringing synonym is Persea riedelii Meisn. The placement of this taxon in Aiouea is presented, justified, and illustrated here, disagreeing with its previous classification in Ocotea , as Ocotea riedeliana (Kosterm.) Kottaim., then considered the correct name. We provide its lectotypification, an updated description, and a provisional assessment of extinction risk. We also present a new circumscription of Ocotea estrellensis (Meisn.) P.L.R.Moraes, with two newly proposed heterotypic synonyms, Ocotea sperata P.L.R.Moraes and van der Werff and Ocotea nunesiana (Vattimo‐Gil) Baitello, the latter being a name misapplied to Aiouea riedeliana in both the literature and herbaria.
