AI-Enabled Smart Manufacturing and Digital Supply Chains: A Roadmap for Viksit Bharat 2047

The vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 necessitates a transformative leap in India’s industrial capabilities, driven by the convergence of advanced digital technologies and autonomous production systems. This manuscript examines the synergistic integration of Ghost Manufacturing fully automated, lights-out production facilities and Intelligent Digital Supply Chains as the foundational catalyst for this industrial metamorphosis. Through an analysis structured across five thematic thrust areas, the paper delineates the role of Smart Manufacturing Technologies such as digital twins and industrial IoT in enabling autonomous, adaptive production systems. It further explores how Digital Supply Networks, empowered by artificial intelligence and cloud-based platforms, can optimize logistics, demand forecasting, and resource allocation, thereby enhancing resilience and agility. The discussion extends to the critical imperatives of Sustainability and Cyber security, arguing that eco-efficient, circular models and robust cyber-physical security frameworks are non-negotiable for responsible and secure industrial growth. Crucially, the manuscript addresses the pivotal role of MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises), proposing cloud manufacturing and shared digital infrastructure as democratizing tools for inclusive participation in the Industry 4.0 paradigm. Finally, it underscores the necessity of a cohesive national strategy, outlining integrated roadmaps for Policy, Infrastructure, and Skill Development. The paper concludes that a coordinated ecosystem approach bridging industry, academia, and government is essential to harness these technologies for building a self-reliant, globally competitive, and sustainable manufacturing sector, ultimately serving as the bedrock for a Developed India by 2047. This holistic framework not only charts a path for technological adoption but also emphasizes the socio-economic and strategic dimensions of India's smart industrial transformation.
