The Human Integration Method for Neurodiversity (HIM-N™): An Interdisciplinary Functional Decision Method

Neurodivergent children and adults often receive support from multiple disciplines, each using a different framework to understand behavior, learning, communication, sensory processing, and participation. This conceptual paper introduces the Human Integration Method for Neurodiversity (HIM-N™), an interdisciplinary functional decision method designed to organize those perspectives without replacing them. HIM-N™ begins by asking what is happening within the human system and what response fits the person, demand, available capacity, effort, support, and context at that moment. Its central components are Functional Fit, the Functional Decision Router, and a set of functional response routes that guide practitioners, educators, and families toward support appropriate to their role. The paper presents the nine-stage decision sequence: Observe, Protect, Understand Availability, Map the Moment, Review Functional Fit, Select the Route, Match the Support, Recheck the Effect, and Learn. Agency, dignity, safety, professional scope, and human impact remain conditions throughout the method. HIM-N™ is presented as a conceptual framework requiring empirical evaluation. It does not replace clinical assessment, diagnosis, professional judgment, emergency procedures, or discipline-specific intervention.
