TACITUS, LIVIA AND THE CHARGES AGAINST AGRIPPINA AND NERO IN a.d. 27 AND a.d . 29

Abstract Further to the argument of Deline in CQ 65 (2015), 766–72, it is argued that Tacitus deliberately reversed the sequence of charges brought against Agrippina the Elder and her son Nero in a.d . 27 and a.d. 29, and deliberately misdated the charges brought against them in a.d . 29, placing them after rather than before the death of the Empress Livia, to reinforce his negative depiction of Livia as an interfering and controlling mother.
