Measuring Nuclear PAHs Deficit in NGC 1365 using JWST/MIRI 10 micron and 11.3 micron Observations

Abstract Using James Webb Space Telescope Mid-Infrared Instrument (JWST/MIRI) observations from the PHANGS-JWST survey (Cycle-1), I present a high-resolution 10 micron to 11.3 micron band-ratio map of the active barred spiral galaxy NGC 1365. The Map reveals a prominent nuclear bar-like structure alongside a deficit in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) emission tightly confined to the innermost core. This sharp depression, identified along a 1D intensity profile, indicates that energetic radiation fields from the AGN, powered by its central $2 \\times 10^6 M_{\\odot}$ supermassive black hole (SMBH)—effectively destroy or alter PAH molecules in the surrounding region.
