FHESS Research Note 17 — Making Positions Readable develops a practical methodological language for FESS, FCLS and FHESS research. Its central question is how research language can decrypt a configuration so that objects, relations, positions, capacities and response possibilities become readable and available for KRINEIN (DISCERN AND DECIDE WITHIN ONE'S OWN POSITION). The Note develops a POSITIVE READABILITY GRAMMAR in which terms are defined through the operations, positions and capacities they make readable. It examines the notation ₒ, ><, →, ?, and (), together with SCRIPT POSITION, AANGRIJPINGSPUNT (POINT OF ACTION), ISOMORPHISM, OWN POSITION, and (UN)AVAILABILITY. Particular attention is given to SCRIPT POSITION as a position within a configuration from which particular actions, answers or responses become (un)available. Script positions may be carried by language, procedure, material arrangements and instruments. The medical configuration of LIGHT, the TONGUE DEPRESSOR and “PLEASE SAY A” provides a concrete model for examining how visibility, material positioning and offered action interact. The Note further distinguishes RESPONSE (DIALOGICAL FEEDBACK) >< ANSWER (ENDOLOGICAL FEEDBACK) and develops ISOMORPHISM as a research hypothesis for examining corresponding relational forms across distinguishable configurations. Research Note 17 is conceived as a living methodological reference document. Successive versions may clarify, differentiate, supplement and test its terminology as further empirical, criminal-legal, institutional and hybrid configurations become available.
